Painting our kitchen...

Well, I have had better days...

Joel and I decided to paint our bedroom and as those of you with kids know a project as small as painting a room can seem overwhelming with kids underfoot. Joel was in Colorado for a few days so I decided to stay up late one evening and get the first coat done. I left my paint tray on our counter that evening. There was about an inch of paint in the tray and I thought I would leave it there to dry...never considering that Evie would find it and want to paint too...

I was upstairs getting ready for the day when Ethan came upstairs with paint all over his pants. It took me a few minutes realize what it was because I had forgotten about the paint tray and didn't think Evie could or would open a paint can. Anyway, Evie was right behind him coming up the stairs, also covered in paint. I threw them both in the tub immediately. Luckily it was time for Ethan's morning nap so after the bath he went to bed and Evie was sent outside until I finished cleaning the kitchen. (I was horrified as you can imagine as I walked into the kitchen). It was a pretty cold morning and Evie is still getting over her cold so I felt bad making her stay outside but I was also pretty upset and didn't want her under my feet when I was cleaning. I could hear her crying that she was cold (it had been 45 minutes) so I told her she could come in but she would have to stay in her time out chair until I was done. Once in awhile she would ask me if she could get down yet and I would simply reply "I know you're not having fun but neither is mommy, you can get down when I'm finished cleaning" surprising she sat there so nicely. She must have sat there at least a half hour. I seriously scrubbed as fast and as hard as I could for an hour and a half...it was unreal!!!

Thank you Evie, She was trying to clean up the paint...yes, that's a spatula there. They got into the utensil drawer.

And decided to call someone too...

  1. Oh my word.

I think I would have cried the whole time I was cleaning. And if our kids make a mess like that, they too have to sit in time out until I'm finished cleaning ... no matter how long it takes. And then a little longer if it really put me in a bad mood.

You must've been SICK to come downstairs and find that mess in the morning. Yogurt, milk, cereal, popcorn, anything food is easy to clean up but PAINT!? Wow.

How on earth did you manage? I couldn't even tell!
