Why not?

To make a long story short after Joel and I caught the last few minutes of American Beauty last night (anyone who has seen the movie knows how intense the ending is) anyway, we decided to let Evie have her day today, to do whatever she wanted (except hurt her brother). Our goal was to not over parent and not say no unnecessarily. To our surprise we realized we could have called her down all day long. Evie; don't pour sand on your brother's head, don't put that in your mouth, it's not food, don't show Ethan how to pick mommy's flowers... It was a real eye opener for us. Since then we have really tried hard to just take a step back and not constantly say no or don't. So with that said...

...when Evie woke up we made blueberry muffins. When I was getting the baking cups out of the cupboard she saw the sprinkles and candles and got excited and asked if it could be her birthday. I loved the idea. She is still chilling in her pj's too. It was a fun, relaxing morning.

A happy little Evie just before we sang Happy Birthday

Make a wish

Ethan woke up just as we were pulling the muffins out of the oven. His morning is off to a good start too.

Ethan was bird watching while eating his muffin. One of his favorite things to do is to chase the birds around the yard saying tweet-tweet.

  1. Nice experiment!! I try to remember to step back with our kids, too, and intervene only if it's a true problem or will hurt someone else. It's easy to overdo it, isn't it?

I'm eager to hear how the rest of your day went!
