Snow...yes, snow.

Snow White was watching the snow fall and asked if she could eat some. We collected some in cups - the kids were stoked.

Pictures just don't show how much it was snowing. It was quite pretty to see the whole valley socked in. Check out the short video at the end of the post.

The snow is just starting to accumulate.

VIDEO: A snowy day at Sunshine Ranch. Joel is in Las Vegas for Interbike and said it was 100 degrees today.

Happy Birthday Maggie

Evie had fun watching the sun come up. She could see her reflection in the window and played with herself like she does in the mirror.

Good morning to our early riser. It's 6:30am and she has this big smile on her face.

A view from our 6F hotel window and the sun rising through the buildings.

Ethan on his way to the elevator. He's ready for breakfast.

Einstein bagels...yummy!

Evie and her best pal - daddy.

Okay, so I leaned in to take a picture with Ethan and he leaned as far away as he could with out falling out of his highchair...I guess it will be soon enough I get the "mom, you're embarrassing me" bit.

This is more like it...I'll just stay way over here...

Evie went over to the counter to look at the cookies. She ran over to ask Joel if she could have one and a lady working there saw Evie eyeing them and actually brought her a cookie and said she could have it, that they were throwing them away today anyway. Lucky girl, she got a free cookie and got to eat it at breakfast. She was so sweet and shared it with all of us. As soon as we ate our bite she quickly gave us another piece with out saying a word.

Our hotel is right on 16th Street Mall. The kids are pretending to pick flowers and give them to each other to smell. It's funny that Ethan does it too. He plays right along with Evie. She gives him a piece of imaginary cake and he pretends to take a bite. She gives him an imaginary flower and he grabs it from her and puts his hand holding nothing up to his nose, just like her.

A bus just went by and quickly got ALL of his attention.

Okay, the bus has passed and we're back to exchanging imaginary flowers.

In the afternoon we went to Michelle and Bob's to celebrate Maggie's 3rd birthday.

I guess I shouldn't be surprised that the kids ate only the frosting off their cupcakes and left their cupcakes on their plates.

Ethan was quick to join the girls playing dress up. He loves walking around in shoes that make a cool clomp, clomp when he walks. Hopefully he will be eager to help with real chores soon enough.

Happy Birthday Maggie.

I asked Maggie and Evie to smile so I could take their picture and Ethan ran over next to them and smiled. I thought it was cute he wanted in the fancy picture too.

Hanging at Michelle's

While Joel and Clarke were at Big Ring Cycles in Golden doing a Tomac Bikes demo day the kids and I spent the afternoon at my cousin Michelle's house in Commerce City.

Ethan was stoked to ride on their bikes. They have a nice neighborhood. It's only 6 years old. The style reminded me of So Cal.

Evie and Maggie are so similar. They both run around in princess dresses all day but are very much tomboys.

Maggie turns 3 tomorrow (Sunday).

Ethan, just inching along...

Elijah and Ethan

The boys were just chilling having a snack.

Ethan was force feeding his crackers to Michelle and I. We didn't mind, they were good.

Happy birthday sleeping beauty.

The kids and I eventually picked Joel up in Golden (its a long story of getting lost with the kids) and headed to our hotel in Denver.

The kids had fun jumping on the beds. They certainly made themselves at home.

I was surprised that Evie could actually jump from bed to bed.
The hotel was really nice (thanks to hotwire.com, it's the only way we can stay in nice hotels). The next day we saw a sign saying they spent 70 million in renovations this past year.

Smith family adventure

We were looking for a long straight piece of timber to rig Ethan's swing (right now it is hanging from a tree and swings crooked). Anyway, Joel said they have been cutting down trees along Raspberry gulch (a jeep road we climb to ride on the 'old' Colorado trail). We later found out that someone purchased 150 acres and the road now goes through their property. We had always thought the whole area was national forest. The land purchased is surrounded by national forest on all 4 sides though. The huge bummer is that we won't be able to ride up the road anymore and won't be able to ride on that section of the Colorado trail anymore since there is no access to it. It really doesn't seem legal to not allow access to an existing trail that is off of a maintained county road.

Straight behind the new green fence post and through the trees is an old abandoned cabin. We used to walk around this area quite a bit before the fence surprisingly went up.

Our adventure got serious when we were driving the jeep up Raspberry gulch and it suddenly stopped. We were a long way from Sunshine Ranch. Joel quickly figured out that it ran out of gas. The gage showed 1/2 full but that was obviously wrong. Joel was able to back the jeep down the hill to a spot he could turn it around. Joel is such an amazing driver that he was actually able to coast the jeep for at least a mile and a half stopping it only a few yards from the furthest point on the smith property. It was still a long run back to the house but it wasn't bad considering where we were.

Evie fell asleep as we were coasting down the hill. Joel ran back to the house to get gas and Ethan and I explored.

Ethan found the rest of a trail head sign and enjoyed lugging it around. Anything that's twice his height or weight...

Only a few yards from where the jeep rolled to a stop is the trail we ride our bikes on to get to the forest. Ethan is in front of the sign at the trail entrance.

The Aspen trees are starting to change color. Pictures don't do the beauty here justice. The hills are full of bright yellow and orange - it's just so beautiful.

Ethan is having fun playing in the dirt. The Chalk Cliffs are the mountains you see in the distance. It is just starting to sprinkle on us too.

Yippee, daddy made it back with gas. Luckily the jeep started right up.

Evie of course is still sacked.

Just as Joel got the jeep started and we were on our way home it started to rain.

Cheese. (I got a bit of water on the lens when I took the picture above). We had fun on our adventure.

On our way to Colorado

We are happily on our way to Colorado again. The 10 hour drive (that takes us 13 hours) is always intimidating but the hard drive is quickly forgotten when we do finally arrive.

We did our usual 'Brady exit - Platte River swim' but it was sprinkling and quite cool. The kids had fun running in the water but mostly played in the sand and didn't totally soak themselves. I didn't take any pictures this time since it looked like it could dump at any minute.

We stopped in Fort Morgan for lunch. Joel dropped the kids and I off at the park and brought back lunch. It was actually HOT in Fort Morgan which was quite the extreme from Brady. The kids had fun playing but it didn't take long for their little cheeks to turn red.

Yippee, daddy's back with lunch. The kids were soooo thirsty too. Evie just settled in and got comfy to drink her milk.

After lunch Evie laid down on the picnic table bench. Ethan quickly ran over to her side of the table and grabbed a few handfuls of grass to throw on her belly...who knows why, but they both laughed. Evie would swipe the grass off and Ethan would do it again.

They got to laughing so hard. Ethan actually laughed so hard he fell over backwards.

After lunch we played in the park for a few more minutes and then walked across the road to feed the geese.

Ethan playing in the sand. It only takes a few minutes in the heat for his face to turn bright red.

Ethan having fun walking around in mommy's shoes.

The geese are a lot more aggressive than the geese at our lakes in Lincoln. I was nervous to feed them at times.

Evie spotted a mommy and her little babies.

Ethan wasn't so sure about the geese...he had a tight hold on daddy's leg and didn't get to far away from us. I think he mostly enjoyed eating the bread.
